Guidelines for Proper Storage of Galvanized Iron Drums
1. Galvanized iron barrels should be moisture-proof and wet
Because galvanized iron barrels are steel products, they are easy to rust in a humid environment. Rust will cause the paint on the surface of the galvanized iron barrel to fall off, or the electroplating layer to fall off, causing surface quality damage. Long-term corrosion, galvanized iron barrels may leak or have serious internal corrosion, losing their use value.
Therefore, galvanized iron barrels should be protected from moisture during storage and transportation. Such as rain, water immersion, wet ground, water vapor in the environment, etc., these environments are easy to cause corrosion of galvanized iron barrels.
Under normal circumstances, galvanized iron drums should be stored in a dry and ventilated canopy or warehouse.
2. Galvanized iron drums should prevent corrosion
At the production site of a chemical enterprise, there are corrosive gases in the air. These corrosive gases will chemically react with the raw material steel plate of the galvanized iron drum, causing corrosive damage and losing its basic function of protecting goods.
Therefore, when chemical companies store galvanized iron drums, they should not only try to use them conveniently, but store them nearby at the production site. Instead, they should be stored in a site farther away from the production site. The galvanized iron drums should also be prevented from getting damp and rusting during storage.
3. Galvanized iron barrels cannot be stored in the open air
When the galvanized iron drum is stored in the open air, it will be exposed to wind, rain and sun. Such an environment will cause great damage to the galvanized iron drum.
Wind blowing can easily make the surface paint of the galvanized iron drum lose its luster, accelerate aging, and reduce the adhesion, thereby losing the protective effect of the paint film on the galvanized iron drum.
The rain will cause greater damage to the galvanized iron drum, which will cause the galvanized iron drum to rust quickly and may lose its use value.
As a result of sun exposure, it not only accelerates the aging and discoloration of the surface paint, but also when the air in the galvanized iron drum is relatively sealed, the high temperature generated by sun exposure will cause thermal expansion and contraction inside the galvanized iron drum, and galvanized iron drums often appear. Bulging or concave deformation, serious leakage will occur due to excessive internal pressure.
4. Scientifically stacking and storing galvanized iron drums
When galvanized iron drums are stored, in order to save the warehouse area, galvanized iron drums are often stacked, but incorrect stacking methods often cause unnecessary damage to galvanized iron drums.
Galvanized iron drums should be stacked upright and should not be upside down. Because inversion will make the barrel bodies of galvanized iron drums and galvanized iron drums contact each other, which will not only cause wear and tear of the barrel body, but also damage the surface coating. More importantly, the galvanized iron barrel body has little resistance to external high pressure, and it is easy to cause depression and deformation of the barrel body when stacking.
When the galvanized iron barrel is stacked upright, the bottom should be padded with a tray, mainly to prevent the bottom of the barrel from being susceptible to moisture and rust when it directly contacts the ground. In the middle of each layer of stacking, a buffer layer such as corrugated cardboard should be padded to prevent the upper layer and the lower galvanized iron barrel from directly contacting the worn surface.
